| The Director Beulah Kolhatkar was born in Lucknow, the daughter of an Army Veterinary Surgeon and a civilian Gynaecologist. She grew up in Ahmednagar, where she completed her schooling. She attended college in Ahmednagar and Pune. She now lives with her family in Kodaikanal, a "hill-station" in the Palani Hills in South India: her husband is an Orthopaedic Surgeon, and her twins are now 17 years old and study in the 12th grade at Kodaikanal International School. She taught Pre-school to 5th Grade for 2 1/2 years at Vidyalayam at the Christian Medical College, Vellore. She then took a break of 5 years until her children were of school-going age. She taught at Kodaikanal International School for 9 years: at first she taught Social Studies for the 7th and 8th grades, and later shifted to High School, teaching 9th to 12th grades Social Experience, Indian Literature and Health. During this period, she formulated the curriculum for the "Social Experience" for the entire High School. This is a Social Awareness course, consisting of "Seminars" during which students discuss various ethical and social issues, and "Projects" during which students did practical work in the community, which gained them "CAS" - Creativity, Action and Service - credits required by the International Baccalaureate Organization. She also initiated various field trips, which, apart from helping students gain "CAS" credits, also were deeply moving experiences: students have had their career choices - and subsequently their lives - altered by what they have seen on such field trips. She now brings this wide experience with teenagers to India Educational Tours, and has drawn on her extensive contacts to formulate many new field trips. |
| Vision & Mission India Education Tours is an organization that seeks to assist schools offering the International Baccalaureate in fulfilling the requirements of the CAS - Creativity, Action & Service program. Non-I B schools are also welcome to avail of the field trips or workshops. We recognize the need to enable students to interact with the environment in which they live, and to empower them to change this environment for the better: Being from privileged backgrounds, our students must also recognize their responsibilities in upholding the highest possible values in a world increasingly troubled by one crisis after another. Education is the most powerful means of helping others less fortunate than ourselves to achieve a better quality of life. Through a values-oriented education we can grow into maturity developing sensitivity, good moral values, principles, ethics and a positive attitude; the true building blocks of character. This Vision and Mission is in keeping with Maria Piaggio's statement - "Service is not simply an emotional impulse, it is a demonstration of attitudes and values." |
